Westsyde and Westmount
Westsyde and Westmount nestle in between the North Thompson River to the East and Batchelor Heights and the Lac du Bois Grasslands Provincial Park hills to the West. They are excellent, family-friendly, community-minded neighbourhoods to consider living in if you’re moving to Kamloops, as they have something to offer everybody from newlyweds and first time home buyers to retirees and everyone in between. Housing prices are very reasonable, and start at around 50,000$ for modular and mobile homes while detached homes are available for anything between 150,000 and 2.5 million dollars. Westsyde is also an excellent place for investors to look at, as there are multiple housing development projects in the works, as well as numerous investment properties conveniently located along the major bus route that leads to the downtown core and to Thompson Rivers University.
Westsyde and Westmount are served by three elementary schools and a secondary school. These schools are somewhat uncommon in Kamloops in that they generally serve the immediate area, and do not have a large proportion of their student body that is bussed in; instead many students walk or ride their bicycles to school. This allows for a vibrant school culture in Westsyde, as characterized by the strong afterschool athletics, music, and drama programs at Westsyde Secondary. For those desiring denominational schooling for their children, North Kamloops and its excellent Christian schools are just a short ways away.
Westsyde also has a number of excellent parks including Westsyde Centennial Park and its adjoining dog park, as well as the Rivers Trail Park which runs along the scenic North Thompson River, and is an excellent place to walk or cycle for people of any age and fitness level. Westsyde is also served by the Westsyde Pool and Community Centre, which provides swimming facilities and classes for everyone from toddlers to seniors.
Westsyde is also a prime area to consider for people looking at agricultural lands, as its rich alluvial soil and close proximity to the river make it a superb place to start a farm or a winery.
For those that enjoy fishing, hiking, snowmobiling, cross country skiing, camping, or any other past times in the great outdoors, Westsyde is ideally located next to the Lac du Bois Grasslands Provincial Park, an area characterized by sweeping vistas, cool fragrant forests and secluded lakes teeming with fish.
